Sod laid today where there once was ditch! Thanks Miller Pipeline!It appears to be St Augustine Grass, the species we’ve been working to cultivate here along both Euclid St and Appleton Ave.

Miller Pipeline indicated that their new pipes are 6 feet below the pavement, so they should not conflict with any digging in our 14’ masonry circle.

Today (Sept 2, 2026), Lumen = L3 and = Century Link fiber indicated that their underground fiber under our lawn is 16 feet down! “You’ll never run into that!”
Century Link on-location Sept 2, 2026.They were looking for an aerial fiber cut. They said the insulation has peanut oil in it, and the squirrels LOVE it!.
These guys were fridndly enough. Unfortunately, they could not find the fiber cut.

Missing from the photos are Chantel “Channy” of Buccaneer, who was preparing some (fantastic) chicken and garlic bread on the grill. Crystal of Heart Strings also joined in the fun for the evening’s second wind. She and her husband Mark have a crew of five home-schooled offspring who keep them young.

Corner of Euclid and Appleton Streets today.As seen from the house…Back at re-digging this ditch today.This joint will be nearly six feet below grade at street level.New 4” gas line (along Euclid St) is connected to a 2” lateral (Appleton St east) …
Water was making its way into the ditch and had to be pumped out.
But it is Finally connected!The 2” lateral is seen on the right, coming into the “T” with the 4” main..Shoring box being pulled out of the ditch. .Their equipment is loaded up for the day – right on time at 5:00pm.
As you can see, the lawn on this [Euclid] side of the house is coming along nicely.
Reportedly, they have to dig up along Appleton Street one more time [tomorrow they hope] to “tap and test” the finished joint.
They simply ran out of time today.
Looking west on Appleton: the site is secured for the evening.I have been tending to the lawn work up by the house. Hopefully the concept of a nice healthy lawn spreading + extending down to the curb again becomes a reality.
New 4” and 2” natural gas pipelines need to connect 6 feet below grade … under our lawn.Existing fiber optic cable. The yellow ball is a device that enables the utility to find the buried cable’s location from above ground.(Above) The arrow points to an existing water valve that goes even deeper than the new gas line!These guys need to fit the shoring box in between the existing utilities!Success!
The shoring is in-place between the existing constraints enabling the fellow to safely enter the ditch to make the new natural gas pipeline connection (2” to 4”).
But… the weather turned on them!
Nasty thunder showers and damaging winds were just being predicted… and the reports were confirmed on weather radar.
A “Stop Work” order was issued!
Before the pipe connection could be made, they had to pull the shoring box out and fill the hole in before the rain hit.
Safety First
They could not leave the hole overnight or through the extreme weather event.
So they will have to start over from scratch tomorrow morning.
Right on queue, the extreme weather hit. The hole was filled, but equipment could not be loaded iff the street in time. Here you can see my new rainwater collection system being overrun!
